Bushwalks

At Solar Springs Health Retreat we make great use of the enormous Morton National Park right on our doorstep. The walks are graded from easy to moderately difficult so there is a walk for most fitness levels.

Guests who have any medical problems or are unsure of their level of fitness are encouraged to speak to the Fitness coordinators concerning participation in the walks. It is advisable to wear comfortable clothing in accordance with the season, and covered comfortable walking shoes.

The following grading is only a guide and times given are only approximate.

Bonnie View - Echo Point - Grand Canyon

DURATION:

  • Grand Canyon - 45 min to 1 hour
  • Echo Point - 1 hour
  • Bonnie View - 1 to 1.5 hours

The degree of difficulty on each of these walks is relatively easy. The tracks are mainly of a sandstone consistency and each is accessible by car. The walks are consistently flat with the exception of a small incline on the Bonnie View walk. The vegetation is mainly dry sclerophyll forest which has regenerated after the major bush fire in 1983.The unfit person should be able to negotiate these walks with little trouble and all should find the views quite spectacular.

Erith Coal Mine

DURATION: 1.25 hours

This moderately difficult walk takes you to a beautiful waterfall which drops into a valley of rain forest at the opening of the old coal mine. It is very pretty and worth taking your camera. It is a 'bush' track and is not accessible by car. It is usually done as a round trip descending down a number of steep steps to the mine but returning via an old bullock track - more of a gradual incline.

The Ampitheatre

DURATION: 1.5 hours

This walk has a number of small undulations with a fairly smooth walking surface. Although the walk would not be considered flat it is easily completed by anyone of average fitness. There are a few steep steps at the end of the trail down to the lookout.

Fern Gully via Riverview Road

DURATION: 2 - 2.5 hours

The Amphitheatre walk is often incorporated as the first part of this walk, making this walk a round trip. From this lookout it is possible to continue on a single file bush track to a spectacular view looking down the gorge cut by Bundanoon Creek. This track is, in parts, quite steep but we take our time where necessary. There is one rather long, steep climb along the way but well worth the effort once at the lookout. The return trip is much flatter on a wider trail with plenty of shade for those sunny days.

The Riverview to Amphitheatre walk is considered a difficult walk but is takes in great views, a variety of vegetation and an array of wild flowers in the spring months.

Glow Worm Glen

DURATION: 1.25 hours

This is a moderately difficult walk which has quite a few steps and is rather steep in some places, but should not be a problem to people with a reasonable fitness level. The glow worms can only be seen at night so a strong torch is essential. It is important to keep noise to a minimum and to keep the light away from the glen to ensure the survival of the glow worms.

An absolutely incredible sight and well worth the trek!
